Thinkin Bout Granma

I was my Granma's very favorite kid.. Even over most of her sons, and all of her grandaughters.. I spent a lot of time at my Granma's house .. She had a garden and chickens that she could always use some help with, and in later years I when her eyes werent as keen I could thread her needles for her and help her quilt.. We cooked and canned a lot too and sat and talked over many-a-cup of coffee..

Granma was one of those that liked her coffee strong with 2-saccarine and a shot of milk, and hot as fire fresh from the pot, but would "saucer" her coffee..

Not even at holiday time would she EVER use her good dishes, but when it was me and her, we used the good dishes..

I hope ya'll had/have someone special to you like I had my Granma.. This id for them..

Grandma, Tea & Me
by Sonya Van Sickle

Katie watched her grandma,
With a certain sense of glee.
She'd been asked to stay up late
And have a cup of tea!
Her grandma took the teapot
From the cupboard shelf,
She spooned in tea for Katie
And then some for herself.

Grandma boiled the water
Until the kettle sang.
The water poured, the timer set,
It was ready when it rang!

The china cups on saucers
Clattered gently as she poured,
While Katie sat and watched
Her grandma she adored.

"A little sugar, dear,
And will you have some milk?"
Katie quickly nodded
And the tea went down like silk.

"Shall we have a cookie?"
Grandma's eyes held a twinkle.
"Yes, please," answered Katie
As she spied the ones with sprinkles.

Her grandma held the cookie jar
And waited as she chose;
A butterfly, a star,
A man with a crooked nose.

"Oh which one shall I take?"
Katie asked, a little stumped.
"I'd pick this one," Grandma said,
"He's so nice and plump."

So there sat Katie and Grandma,
Having cookies and their tea.
And Katie said, "What a special time
Just Grandma, tea and me."

My grannie was pretty special to me, as well. She taught me to garden, cook, clean and quilt! Didn't realize how much I still miss her until I read your post and started my response. Darn.

I have plenty of free time anymore, and I spend a lot of it "contemplatin" .. Mostly about friends and family in the past.. I've lost a lot of my memory of the past and I kinda dwell on what I can still remember..

Rememberin the past helps keep me from thankin bout the present and wonderin about the future..
