America Goin Redneck !!
I know that some of you have your reservations bout vigilantism. but I aint thru talkin bout it yet.. And it seems that the subject is gettin a lot of attention around the .net and the Talk Radio circles too lately and since I talked about it here..
Since I talk about stuff and then I hear or see it in other more popular places, it makes me wonder if there aint somebody monitorin this blog for ideas cause I've noticed this happenin a bunch of times in the past coupla years, or maybe, I'm just ahead of the "curve" !!
Today I tuned my radio to the channel that I usually listen to Rush on and I had forgotten that Rush is takin a day off and he had Walter Williams fillin in for him.. Guess what Walter was talkin bout today ?? Yep, vigilantism !!
Seems that Walter is IN FAVOR of vigilantism too !! He thanks that people policin their own neighborhoods would be a GOOD THANG, just like I do.. But if you thank he is just advocatin a Crime Watch or Citizens On Patrol kinda deal you would be wrong.. His idea is that a bunch of vigilanties approach the gangs on the street corners and to tell em to get out or they will be whooped OR shot.. NO SHIT, he said that !!
Kim du Toit(blogroll) also had somethin bout this subject too the other day, as has a bunch of others.. Altho, I havent seen anybody else propose a Hangin Post on every corner, but Kim did have a sweet pic on his post and I hope he dont mind that I include it here.. It brought a big smile to my face, imagine that..
But just like me, Walter thanks that its the Gubmint's Number 1 job to PROTECT its citizens, and when it dont the citizens are bound to do it themselves..
I got a piece of news the other day that makes me uneasy.. A fella I know was up in the less policed sections of town here and got stopped on the street by a group of kids wearin blue hankies(read Crypts here) round their heads that tried to rob him and when he resisted they hit him in the face with a pistol.. Jim tends to be on the Redneck side himself and when they hit him with the pistol he spun his truck around and went after em and scattered em to the shadows !!
Several times in the last 10 years the gangs have tried to move in here and each time they got run out.. But not by the cops but by the people.. Each time they have come back they have been bigger and stronger and more violent.. Its gotten ugly gettin rid of em before, but I thank its gonna get really ugly this time..
But these gangs dont just show up, they are usually associated with somebody local that sponsors em.. I know people and have friends that will tell me what I need to know and I'll soon have a better idea of whats goin on..

We're on the exact same wavelength here Bill.
I hate to use the Klan as an example....but back in the day.... Local law Enforcement....as you probably well know.....well lets just say they were not an obstacle to community organized justice.
Of course the Klan today, from what little I know about it, appears to be comprised of a bunch of ignorant racist morons.... but back in Mesquite in the 50s it was like a Masonic auxiliary, with some of the most respected members of the community involved.
I'm thinkin something like that is gonna have to occur again, with widespread "Community" support.......but I just dont see it ever happening....at least not until its too late.
Cause your gonna have to either overcome local law enforcement or work in conjunction with them.... and unless its organized on such a national level that the Feds cant concentrate on a particular region, they will come in and screw it up.
You'd have to start taking the Feds out as soon as they rolled into town, and then the national guard.....
......unless.....something catastrophic happens.....that either decimates the Feds, or leaves them with bigger things to worry about than community justice.
...... and by the same token, The Rednecks aint the only ones who could go vigilante.... "They" could first, and there's a lot of "Them". They could overwhelm local law enforcement just as easy....hell they pretty much already have in the urban areas.
At that point our focus would have to shift to survival and starving them out enough to deplete their ranks....which could be done pretty easily by controlling the transportation arteries into their urban strongholds.
But, RT, the trick is gonna be to get organized and develope a chain-of-command and work with the cops to get info that helps to outsmart the gangs.. And the gangs, "THEY", are already workin in just about every nook and cranny in this country..
But the vigialnte wont have to advertise to get members.. Not if its respectable.. Local cops Posse and Auxilary groups are always filled to capacity when there is one, and they are usually upstandin members of the communities too.. The problem has been that PC has taken away all the incentive to have these groups.. They have been painted as nothin more than a glorified Klan everywhere and supported by law enforcement, and Janet Reno didnt help the situation either..
But a possee or vigilante committee would have plenty of cops and military vets amongst em.. Their experience and support would most likely make-or-break a possee or committee..
But folks dont feel any need to be responsible or have any obligation to even call and report crime and criminals anymore.. Most are afraid that the dirtbags will find out and come back and do somethin to em and the cops will be too busy eatin donuts or roustin drunks to to protect em.. But if they are a member of the vigilante they know that all they have to do is call the group and they have all the protection they need and the dirtbag will be too afraid of em to come back anyway.. That alone should be a pretty good recruitment tool !!
But I thank you got the wrong idea bout havin to starve em out.. I thank they will do just like they did in Nawlins and start killin each other out !! The trick is gonna have to be to be ready for when they start to migrate out of their strongholds to the outside and pick em off.. Wont take the SWAT teams and the military long to flush the rats out..
Saftey has always been in numbers, and you have to have teamwork in numbers.. That takes organization and command-and-control..
Even if shit dont hit the fan, you still aint lost nothin by havin your posse or vigilante.. Havin EXTRA protection in your community still aint a bad thang !! Havin too little protection is !!

Sadly, I agree with you. Our police are hamstrung - especially here in Northern California - and our friggin government won't do squat to protect us.
Form those committees and post haste. Problem, is how on earth do you do so without ending up with the law at your door?

Well my Brother has already done something similar down in Van Zandt County.
They were having quite a bit of rural crime, mostly speed junkies committed burgleries....so he formed the Arc Ridge Crime Watch, and went around to his neighbors, and to my surprise, found a bunch that wanted to get involved. They met like once a week, and took turns patroling the back roads. Had a few violent encounters at first, but once word got around the crime pretty much stopped.
....but then it started getting political....Candidates for Sheriff and stuff would come by the meetings looking for electoral support.....and they endorsed the wrong one.
Then the infighting started.... you know.... thats just the way groups of humans roll.
....and thats the bad side effect of organized vigilantism....you start off with one target, then .... well you know.....it gets out of hand. The target list expands....You start looking around for spies and narks....then that becomes a tool for internal power struggles....then the group divides....and goes to war with each other.
Sucks when people lose their focus on the Mission !!
Well WB, you painted one picture and RT painted another. but there is a middle. I guess I'll tell you how it is around here.
First there were a few of us, like maybe ten or twelve that are very involved in local government. Some in the government, most outside of it. We use community meetings, church meetings, city council meetings and the local Vets orgs and whoever we think is ready to do something other than talk.
This little group has grown into a small company size "gang" over the years.
We have pretty much made enough enemies in the local and county governments (and a couple in State) by our calling out of their stupidity and spending ways.
An offshoot of that, is that we kinda gravitated toward hanging out together. Almost like an adult "gang". With lots of silver hair and beer bellys and big pickups and lots of guns.
We have coffe, b-b-qs and generally do a lot of stuff together. Trips, hunting, camping and such. Good friends most, some we just put up with.
I of course, being responsible for Sweet Sarah and soon Sweet Hanah, don't get to do a lot with the "gang". But I am kept in the loop.
We have an informal agreement or handshake type deal that if any one "member" has a problem, we will get involved and help. This has been in place for a few years and let me tell you it has been a godsend many times for many of us.
Kinda like the way the Church of Latter Day Saints works to support their members. Except that we are of all religions and even a few that don't believe in any God or Higher Power.
The other agreement we have is that when it looks like the local law or government is not, or can not handle what is going on or about to happen, we will come together and do something.
We have discussed the "something" many times. Many of us are ex-military and afew are still serving. We have two that are county employees, two more that are county deptuty sheriffs and even one city cop. We are courting an ex-Texas Ranger who has lots of contacts in Austin and elsewhere in Texas.
We are not all low class rednecks, but rednecks in spirit, spread over a wide income and background.
We almost overrun the local shooting club about every two weeks when the weather permits and even sometimes when we cuss ourselves for being out there. There is more weapons and ammo than most people would believe between all of us.
I can tell you that if I do manage to move out of this mess I'm in, it won't be too far, because I aim to continue to be a part of this gang until I'm too stove up or too old to contribute.
On top of all that, these guys are a blast and lots of fun to be around. And of course they all love my Sweet Sarah like she was their own.
Are we ready? well no one is ever really ready to fight, to bleed, to die or make others bleed or die. But we are prepared and we do believe we can and will make a difference when the time comes.
Needless to say, we all hope that time never comes.

We have a few small groups(10-12) like that around here but most are either a bunch of relatives and friends or a bunch of the "money" folks that dont like to associate with us peons..
I used to have a good group of about a dozen that hung out with me at the farm and it was a bunch that watched each others backs.. It ended when my ex left and took my baby girl with her and I went mean, crazy, and drunk and wanted to just be by myself.. I've mostly broke myself from bein so mean, crazy, and drunk, but I'm still strugglin with the wantin to be by myself..
But I might as well get used to the idea cause the situation is gonna dictate it before long..

Maybe what needs to be done with some of those gangs and others that you mention is to just place some well positioned bear traps and stand back and watch the action.
